83. Visit Rock Creek Cemetery
I had July 4th off from work for the holiday.
6of8 suggested we visit Rock Creek Cemetery. As it was one of my things, I was all for it. It required me waking up before 7am on a holiday, out the door before 8 to get there around DC instead of straight through where the streets were blocked off for festivities. But it was a great visit.

This is a cemetery with headstones dating back to the 1700s through today. It's tucked away in a small spot but it's like the TARDIS--bigger on the inside. I also loved the diversity of headstones--quite a few in languages I couldn't read. It was filled with a wide variety of markers, mausoleums, columbariums (my new word of the day!), sculptures, tombs, even a water lily pond. We spotted a few notable people, but didn't spot Upton Sinclair or Gore Vidal & partner.

But I did get to see quite a lot, including a few snarfs. And now I know where it is and where to go to park if I want to go back.

Date: 2013-07-04 10:14 pm (UTC)Thank you for a fun morning as well! I took a short nap this afternoon, so it's *almost* like I got to sleep in after all ;-) I definitely wouldn't have wanted to "cover" the cemetery in the heat of the afternoon! Thanks for helping me out with one of my things; it was fun exploring with you!
