List 1- Thing 54

I watched Doubt last night. I really liked it. Lots of people complain that it's slow, but I thought the slow pacing was sort of the point. It was dramatic and thought-provoking. The formal setting, situation, and way of speaking was perfect as it gave the characters just enough room to accuse and wonder and discuss but not enough for anyone to really know the full truth. It humanized things in a way I didn't expect and shaded everything in gray so that no one was good or bad completely. Life's about choices and feelings. It's human/mortal to make mistakes and have to live with actions... but how do we live with other people's actions? How do we live with what might be happening not to us but to someone else? Seriously, I just wrote out a whole paragraph of questions and then deleted them because I've already said it: it's thought-provoking.
The acting was marvelous, even the kids'. I especially liked Phillip Seymour Hoffman; he was soooooo likeable but every look, every word from him were so ambiguous. And everyone had so many layers to them-- beautifully written and acted. That last scene between Hoffman's character and Meryl Streep's character was exquisite and powerful. And Amy Adams was fantastic as well; I loved her character and could instantly relate to her.
The only thing I didn't like was the very last bit. I thought the last word, though sort of the POINT of the whole movie, felt a bit cheesy. I don't know whether it was because I was kind of shocked to hear her say it out loud or because her delivery was weird. But I was spellbound through the whole movie and that last sentence broke the spell for some reason.
But apart from that, I loved the movie.
