98. Continue to save and make an extra mortgage payment every May

I ran into a few problems transferring funds online, but it worked on the app. I made an extra mortgage payment this month. Even though I'll continue to save a little in my special account for this, I'm calling this done as it's the last May in this round of 101 Things.

98. Continue to save and make an extra mortgage payment every May

I forgot about this one until May 31, but I quickly transferred funds and made the extra mortgage payment before midnight, in honor of my house's birthday.

98. Volunteer with a new-to-me organization on MLK Jr. Day of Service

I really like the idea of using MLK Jr. Day as a day of service--a day on, not a day off. As much as I love having a day off, I also know how important it is for me to not take advantage of the fact that I have a job right now with holiday pay. I did a search on https://www.nationalservice.gov/serve-your-community/mlk-day-service for something near me, and there wasn't much of anything. I expanded my search until I came upon a giant volunteer opportunity in Rockville, Maryland, so that's what I signed up for.

It was an event run by the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, which brought together about 50 different organizations in their community that needed volunteers. When the doors open, thousands of us were let loose upon these orgs. I headed straight to tables 40 and 41 where I manned the soap for the next 30 minutes or so, putting it in bags with other toiletries for the homeless. There was a nice group of people I worked with; we were a well-oiled machine!

After that, I floated around looking for something else, but everything was pretty well staffed. I asked at the no-sew blanket & scarf area, but they were out of scissors and space as well. So I wound up over at Manna Food Center, packing diabetic/vegetarian boxes. I went through the line a few times until they ran out of boxes for us to fill.

I did a couple more passes through. There were a few I would have liked to have helped out with, but they were filled with children who were having fun, so there wasn't room for me. It was awesome seeing SO MANY families and kids involved in this service day.

98. Make a merit badge book of this list of things

I wanted to do this one early so that I could use it to keep track and check things off the way I did last time. I know I've got this journal for that as well, but there's something fun about holding the book in my hand and writing in progress & completions.

98. Host a meme on my LJ every year during April

I hosted another meme on my LJ starting April 14 this year. So far there are almost 400 posts and 16 fills. So it's already been a great success, and the meme is still going strong. I'm having such a great time with it! Last year, the meme lasted a long time, strong for many months but it's actually still getting fills occasionally now. So I hope this one will be just as long-lived.

I'm so glad I made this one of my things. So many wonderful stories have come out of it, including some I've written! I'll definitely be putting this on next time's list.

98. Host a meme on my LJ every year during April

I hosted one on one of my LiveJournals and it's still going on in May, so I'd say that was a successful meme! I've written at least 7 stories for it with several more in the works. And there have been dozens more written by others. It's been a lot of fun :-) And now I have more prompts than I can shake a stick at! heehee

98. Host a meme on my LJ every year during April

April 2013 produced TWO memes! I couldn't decide whether to do an all-fandom one or an SPN-only one, so I ended up doing two memes (as you do). And they produced dozens of wonderful fics. I can't think of a better way to spend my birth month than to enjoy my favorite types of stories with other people who love those stories. And I wrote ten stories. Yay!

One April down... a few Aprils to go!

Here's a wrap-up of my second 101 Things in 1001 Days.

Totals--
Finished: 67
Started: 22
Not Started: 12

By Category--
Complete One Project Each Month: 28/33
Writing: 4/8
Hobbies: 6/16
Visit/Travel: 5/6
Fannish: 7/14
Personal/Home: 9/15
Philanthropic: 6/7
Misc: 2/2

Discussion of unfinished goals--
10. Makeup Project- Put together all the LEGO sets I've bought as of December 2010 and haven't yet assembled
Yeah. I kept buying new sets. Now I have dozens not yet put together. And I don't need the pressure to get to them. I'll put them together when I have time and inclination.

11. Makeup Project- Complete all the prompts from the book before the end of this 1001 days
I'm still on January prompts!

18. August 2011 Makeup Project: STILL haven't decided yet AND 25. March 2012 Project
I didn't come up with projects ahead of time for these months. That seemed to be key in my finishing monthly projects.

20. October 2011 Project
This was my Ticket Stub diary. I started it. I decided to do it by type of ticket (movies together, concerts together, etc.) But then I didn't know how many pages to leave blank in-between for future events. So I assembled all my tickets and then stalled. But this made it onto my next 101 list, so I have hopes of finishing it. I'm planning to do it in random order :-)

34. Finish all outstanding gifts/recent requests
I didn't really work on any fics that fit this category, but I don't even know how many there were or which ones. I really should have made a list to begin with. I did write dozens of gifts, though, so I don't feel bad

37. Finish my Remus H/C 10 story set
I wrote one fic during this time period, and that's it. Boo! Poor Remus!

38. Write/post 7 Strokes stories
I did work on a number of stories, but I only finished a few and posted even fewer. I hope to turn this around next time. I miss my boys!

39. Submit to 5 writing contests/journals
I submitted to 1. Which is still 1 more than before I started these goals. So there is that :-)

43. Write 2 BookCrossing articles
I wrote one. There are a few topics I wanted to write, but the article just didn't materialize. The BookCrossing Newsletter has been sporadic, though, so it wasn't really on my mind often enough.

44. Choose a wild release location and take photos of 100 different releases there
I got more than 1/10th released and I enjoyed it. I think going onto campus feels too difficult (driving on campus, finding a spot in the parking deck, running over and releasing, using the parking ticket machine, then getting out of the parking deck before it charges me). But it really is a great spot. I have this again on my next 101 list and I hope this time I'll do it!

45. Clear 25 books off my BookCrossing TBR Shelves
I came so close! But no cigar :-( This is on my next list as well

47. Get a book journaled for all states I don't already have books in
I definitely made progress, but I didn't finish this task. It's on next time's list, so maybe I'll make it then.

48. Get to 4,000 snarfs at Markeroni
Originally, I had 2,000 on my list. crrcookie & melydia convinced me to raise it to 4,000. What was I thinking? LOL Even with all the Gettysburg and UK snarfs, I can't make it to 4,000. But maybe next time...

49. Write 2 Markeroni articles
Shortly after I made this goal, the Markeroni blog changed its style, so I didn't get the articles written the way I'd intended. However, I am writing some short essays about my snarfing adventures for a Markeroni fundraiser (I've started them but I'm not quite done yet). So I'm still counting this as in progress.

52. Log all landmarks from before I joined Markeroni
I made a good effort, digging up and scanning in a bunch. But some (like my first trip to Ireland/Scotland) are still unlogged

54. Create full list of To Be Read books
I wanted to do this as I packed up my books to take them over to my new house. But that hasn't happened yet. This made it onto next time's list.

55. Bring Kintailscape up-to-date
I really didn't even touch this one. Bad Keta!

61. Re-experience the magic of the dollhouse store
Went out of business. I cried.

56. Learn how to crochet
I bought a starter kit for a scarf... haven't even opened the kit. But I did put this on next time's list so that I can actually do it!

64. Finish watching all of Doctor Who
Wow. Um. I'm still on the First Doctor!

68. Watch the Academy Award Best Picture nominees each year (2010, 2011, 2012)
I came SO CLOSE! Just 7 or 8 left. I think I'll add these to next year's list as well, because I still do want to watch them!

69. Watch all my unwatched DVDs
Not even CLOSE! I did watch some specifically because of this goal on this list, so it served some purpose. But there are still a bunch I didn't get to. How many? No idea, because I never made a list. That's part of my next 101 things.

70. Finish Gabaldon series to-date (re-read & read for the first time)
I earread the first ones, which are really my favorites. But I want to try this goal again with a stronger push.

72. Create a Washington Capitals Season schedule for all seasons that start during my 1001 days
Yeah. This didn't happen. I usually just looked it up on the internet. Less convenient, but it worked.

73. Go to a Hershey Bears game
I wish I could have gone to TONIGHT'S game at the Verizon Center! But I'm exhausted and, truly, I put this on the list because I wanted to go up to Hershey to get the whole experience. So I put this on next time's list as well.

74. Start a local Quidditch team
We did play a few times and DC Sports tried to organize a local team/league. But you need people to get this done, and that's what we didn't have.

80. Get weight down to 135lbs
I gained a LOT Of weight over the past 3 years. But I'm at 18lbs lost since I really started to try to lose weight, and I'm proud of myself for that. I'm going to stick with this one. It's going on next time's list.

81. Handle the mess that is my closet
I did... look at my closet a few times. I need to do an honest cleanout of it.

82. Clean out/sort Outlook Inbox & Google Mail
I didn't do this one either. I lost my email for a while and I thought that might help, but I got most of it back in the end. I'm still at 41,000 unread and about 57,000 total not in folders or deleted/dealt with.

84. Create 10 digital scrapbook pages
I didn't do a single one! I did read a part of a book about it and look into software packages. But the two digital scrapbook albums I own are both completely empty still.

91. Figure out how to display my keychain collection
I like the hooks I saw on melydia's bookcase. I might try something like that, but I like them in bunches the way they are as well. So I'm still undecided, but I've put this on my next list.

92. Make breakfast for dinner 33 times during the 1001 days (that averages out to once a month)
To be completely honest, I got bored keeping track. I ate a bunch of breakfasts for dinner, but I don't know how many. I probably ate close to 33, but I don't know for sure. I certainly enjoyed the ones I did eat.

98. Donate 100,000 grains of rice at FreeRice
I discovered that, though I like answering the FreeRice.com questions, I'm not really remembering anything I didn't already know. And I really did give this my best shot!

The website counted properly this time! Maybe the bugs are worked out for good? Also, I discovered the French language subject and had lots of fun remembering vocabulary words I thought I'd forgotten!

I did 4,500 today.

Total: 30,000

EDIT: I just picked up my 101 Things journal and found 7,000 grains recorded there on 11/07/10 that never made it to this journal!
So I'm actually at 37,000. Woot!

FreeRice.com is kind of broken. It doesn't record the totals properly, it forgets what level you're on, it forgets what subject you're on. So even though it tells you you've only earned 500, it might be 1500 you've actually earned. Still, I decided to let the website keep track for me.

Donated in January 2012: 6280

Total: 23,280/100,000

Still a long, LONG way to go.

I jumped around a lot. I started in English Grammar but two of this had bugs so that no matter which answer you chose, it came out wrong. I got tired of seeing those two over and over again so I switched to French for a while. I got to level... 7 maybe? Then I got bored and switched to pre-Algebra arithmetic where I got something like 40 in a row correct before I made a stupid mistake.

[livejournal.com profile] thingism was nice enough to calculate the milestones along our way. Yesterday was day 100... so today is day 101! Here's a recap of my progress:
Finished: 6

Things 1-33- I decided it would be fun to make a video for each of the projects I finish. So far, 3 down and 33 to go. I haven't decided on my June project yet. I finished a few things that might work for it. I think what I want to do is work on my Ticket Stub book, though.

Thing 35- Despite writing a story a day for LMoM 2010, there were several days I skipped (because I'd written ahead) because of RL commitments.

Thing 38- I've been working on a few of them. Haven't finished any or posted any more yet though

Thing 39- There was a journal I was thinking of submitting to. I sent away for a previous issue so I could get a look at the journal first though.

Thing 41- I've slipped up and haven't been keeping track. Maybe today I should catch up.

Thing 42- I'm so close on this one! Just about 900 or so to go!

Thing 44- I keep thinking about this one. I need to stop thinking and just go DO.

Thing 45- I have read one, but didn't make an entry about it. I definitely need to work on this one. I've got a Do Nothing But Read day coming up in a week, so I'm hoping that will help!

Thing 48- I have several handfuls of snarfs from Georgetown yesterday and a handful from Arlington a few weeks ago. But I'm still only up to about 1,550. Not too bad. I have another 900 days to go :-)

Thing 50- I'm making some good progress here. I think this one will be one I come close to finishing but not completely finish. The problem is markers keep getting put up or taken down/vanishing.

Thing 51- 1 out of 3. But I'm planning on driving back from Florida, so I should be able to get 2 more easily

Thing 53- One is coming up on June 27! I'm working on my list of books to finish & read

Thing 57- I really wanted to go to one before BrickFair, but I keep having other obligations those days.

Thing 60- I desperately want to do this one on my way back from Florida. I'm going to have to research and see which one is a good target.

Thing 62- I have my ticket booked!

Thing 64- I'm getting close to finishing the first doctor's journies :-)

Thing 65- I've started the last season, but it's slower-going because it's not available through streaming.

Thing 66- I just read an awesome Stargate Atlantis fic and so my interest in pickthing this one up has been rekindled.

Thing 69- I've actually started watching my own DVDs more because of this. I really need to count them up. Let me do that today!

Thing 72- I didn't do one for the 2009-2010 season but that season was mostly over by the time I started these goals. So I'm giving myself a pass there.

Thing 75- 9 out of 10. I expect I'll pick up a Diagon Alley album at Infinitus :-)

Thing 76- I still haven't decided if I want to put them on my Hufflepuff banner or not.

Thing 78- Still saving!

Thing 80- I made a really good attempt this month at eating more reasonably and working out daily. I've already started slacking off on it, but I haven't seen any change yet. Damnit. *feels discouraged*

Thing 81- I have been working out the logistics of this lately. I think I'm going to get rid of a LOT pretty soon. I'm tired of clothes with holes or clothes I have never worn taking up space in my wardrobe

Thing 88- I want to make sure I have the right hookups on my old TV before I buy a VCR/Blu-Ray combo

Thing 90- I have some space now in which to store my stuff. Now I just need to DO this.

Thing 92- So far, I haven't missed a month!

Thing 97- I really want to do this

Thing 98- Man, 100,000 is a HUGE number!

I totally stole this thing from [livejournal.com profile] thingism. I love the FreeRice.com site and think it's a very clever way to do something that helps while learning/keeping your brain sharp. My vocabulary skills are terrible, so I thought this would be an especially good challenge for me.

Today at lunch I spent a few minutes on the site. I was pleased to see that, if you miss a word, it gives you the word again a few words later to see if you learned from your mistake. I like being given second chances like that and don't remember that from the last time I was on the site.
