44. Try sweet treats at 7 indie shops

Three days in a row, during Brickfair, I tried the frozen custard at Milwaukee Frozen Custard. I went with friends twice and on my own once on the way back home again. The daily flavors I tried each day were peach (not pictured), strawberry, and chocolate chip cookie dough. So good!

99. Create a 101 Things Merit Badge book

I put together the book and ordered it in June. On July 13, it arrived and I spent some time back-filling it with the things I've worked on and finished so far for list 7. I love how it turned out. I used clip art and logos for the merit badge images this year (instead of a mix of those and photos) so they're all consistent and look more like merit badges. I also included seven different shapes of different colors on the front cover, representing my seventh list of things.

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

36. Have 7 movie nights

In July, I had two more movie nights.

In honor of Independence Day, I watched Red, White, and Royal Blue (with an appropriately red, white, and blue snack). I loved the movie, though I still prefer the book. And, about a week later, I watched Disney's Descendants: The Rise of Red on the night it premiered. Descendants is one of my guilty pleasures. This was definitely not as good as the original, but I loved the time travel and the heartfelt Carlos callout. I enjoyed the fun, relaxing night!

And even though this thing is done, I absolutely want to make movie nights a routine thing.

27. Make a fanvid

With 2 days until the submission deadline for a convention vidshow, I decided to make the fanvid I'd been thinking about for almost a full year. I think it turned out all right, and it was accepted into the show! It's the first fanvid I've made in over a decade.

Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Pairing: Gollum/The One Ring

55. Set up air fryer & use

After owning it for more than a year, I finally took my Air Fryer out of the box, set it up, and tried it for the first time. I started with some vegetarian cheese steaks. They turned out a little overdone/burnt but 100% edible and delicious! I loved how fast it was and how easy it was to clean up afterward.

3. Pride Reading Project 2024

I had a highly successful June 2024! I managed to read 43 LGBTQIA+ books during the month! A few were off my TBR shelves, but most were courtesy of the wonderful libraries in my area.

I read:
Pride: A Celebration in Quotes by Caitlyn McNeill
Alex's Cupcake Haven by Roc Jane
Just Happy to Be Here by Naomi Kanakia
Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin
A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood
A Quick & Easy Guide to Asexuality by Molly Muldoon
Asexual Fairy Tales by Elizabeth Hopkinson
So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole
Rainbow! Vol. 1 by Sunny & Gloom
A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow
A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow
Stage Dreams by Melanie Gillman
More Asexual Fairy Tales by Elizabeth Hopkinson
The Diablo's Curse by Gabe Cole Novoa
ABC-Deconstructing Gender by Ashley Molesso, Chess Needha
Frankie & Bug by Gayle Forman
Bathe the Cat by Alice B. McGinty
Voir Dear by Marie Sinclair
Too Bright to See by Kyle Lukoff
Morgan Calabrese: The Movie by N. Leigh Dunlap

Paper Planes by Jennie Wood
Brooms by Jasmine Walls
Dry by Augusten Burroughs
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich by Deya Muniz
Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin
Surviving the City by Tasha Spillett
From the Roots Up by Tasha Spillett
If I See You Again Tomorrow by Robbie Couch
Flamer by Mike Curato
In the Form of a Question: The Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life by Amy Schneider
The Pale Queen by Ethan M. Aldridge
Rainbow Revolutionaries: Fifty LGBTQ+ People Who Made History by Sarah Prager
The House of Hidden Meanings by RuPaul
Pixels of You by Ananth Hirsh, Yuko Ota
The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefe
He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters by Schuyler Bailar
His Lordship's Secret by Samantha SoRelle
Northranger by Rey Terciero
Pardalita by Joana Estrela
Obie Is Man Enough by Schuyler Bailar

I still intend to #ReadQueerAllYear, but I love having an excuse to read LGBTQ+ books I've had my eye on for a while and dedicate a whole month to them as exclusively as possible (I did read a few non-LGBTQ+ books that I had started before June and finished up at the beginning of the month).

There are also some LGBTQ+ books I read parts of in June but haven't yet finished:
I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Ace and Aro Journeys by The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project
Red Line by L.A. Witt
Bears on Bears by Ron Jackson Suresha
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith (I don't really know if this counts, because Tom's definitely denying he's gay. But he also denies murdering people, sooooo....)

49. Have a picnic

I passed on having a picnic on my birthday. And I passed again on having a picnic on Juneteenth. On Saturday, June 22, I washed my picnic supplies, packed my brand new picnic basket, packed my brand new picnic cooler backpack, snipped the tags off my brand new picnic blanket, and drove to a local park.

I'd been to the park on June 1 for a Pride poetry reading and had spotted a couple nice spots for a picnic. When I arrived, there were almost no cars in the parking lot. I had the park almost entirely to myself, so I located the perfect spot in a sort of shady grove under a big tree.

As it was warm out, I spent most of the time with one of the cold packs against my chest or neck. But I had a BIG lunch (almost vegan; just a tiny bit of cheese in the pasta salad) and brought a book. It was wonderful to just sit and enjoy the food in quiet, watching butterflies and birds. And it was lovely to just relax and read outside for an hour or more.

I had a wonderful time and am so glad I made this one of my things!

28. Assemble a book nook

On June 8, during a craft get-together with friends, I started assembling the book nook my sister got me for Christmas. I have never put together a wooden kit before, so I didn't know what I was doing, but at least there were instructions.

I made some mistakes. I struggled with the multiple electric lines/wires. I superglued my fingers together twice and once my finger to wood. I broke a few pieces that didn't come with duplicate backups. BUT I am SUPER PROUD of the result. It turned out really great and makes me really happy. I can see the mistakes, but they're so small that they don't spoil anything (and you can only see the wires if you look at a certain angle and know what to look for).

I definitely prefer LEGO and things that don't need glue. But I do really love this book nook. I look forward to assembling the other book nook kit I own.

7. Clear 77 physical books off Mt. TBR

On June 6, I finished reading A Quick & Easy Guide to Asexuality by Molly Muldoon and Will Hernandez. It happens to have been my 77th book removed from my To Be Read shelves. I don't feel like I've made a lot of progress with this, as my shelves are as full as ever. But 77 is still a great number to hit, and I was worried about making it 700 when I set the goals for this list. I'll keep up the good work and keep reading, regardless!

30. Visit 7 indie bookstores

As part of the Independent Bookstore Crawl Passport project, I visited stores 6 (A Thousand Stories) and 7 (Fonts) after work! They were both wonderful and charming. I actually tried to visit A Thousand Stories on Sunday, but I discovered when I arrived that it's closed on Sundays! This time, I made sure it was open so I could go in and buy something. And Fonts had so many neat bird-themed items, it was difficult to not buy them all for my mother.

66. Do a runes reading

I bought this amazing handmade set from a friend at church through our annual service auction. It was charged with my birth energy, and only I can use them.

I did a quick one-rune pull on my birthday (which is when I got it) and then a paired pull on April 28 (photo above). I really love them and how they help me think about things going on in my life more complexly.

40. Set up Paramount+ and DropoutTV on both TVs

Done! I finally bit the bullet and paid for a DropoutTV subscription. Absolutely no regrets. It's the best birthday present I've ever given myself.

I set Paramount+ up a little bit ago, so now I've got both on both my tvs and computers. I'm all set for binging goodness!

12. Build Rivendell set

I started building LEGO Rivendell with a friend on April 4th and finished building it on April 7. It was definitely the most fun I've ever had with a set. So many interesting, fun details and build tricks. I even watched some of The Rings of Power while building to get more Middle Earth vibes. I absolutely love the finished product and had to reorganize my fandom bookshelf a bit so that it would fit on its own shelf. Absolutely love it surrounded by Tolkien books.

56. Set up roomba & use

I opened up the Roomba box I bought back in July of 2023 this morning, set it up to charge, read through the directions, and tried it out this afternoon. Definitely worked better than the $20 models I tried from FiveBelow. I'm definitely in love with it. As vacuuming is literally my least favorite chore, I hope that this will help improve my life significantly.

70. Update “If found dead” paperwork on door

I have been meaning to update my paperwork for years. It has information about who to contact, where I work, and what my cats need. It's in a pouch on the back of my front door in case of emergencies. The last time I updated it was 2020 (during the pandemic). So it was definitely time to refresh it. I'd been pushing it down on my list for a while, so it felt great to get it updated!

82. Play an RPG through SPG

Start Playing Games (SPG) is a website that lets players and game masters find each other for games/adventures. I found a Wanderhome game that was being merged with Roll for Shoes. I had never played Wanderhome before, but I knew Roll for Shoes well. And Wanderhome looked sweet and cozy and soft.

I ended up being a mothtending sheep named Willa in a short campaign. We had our final session of the campaign on March 6 (I joined in from Las Vegas where I was for a work conference). We ended up enjoying the adventures so much, we started up again. But after a handful of sessions during which I caught a wishing fish, outfitted my room on the back of a giant snail, and walked through an upside-down waterfall, I can definitely count this as finished!

47. Eat breakfast somewhere fun

YUM! I went to the Cereal Bar at the mall, a place I'd been wanting to check out for months. I was nervous but determined. So I ordered a Strawberry Shortcake milkshake. And it was utterly delicious! Several different types of cereal and a lot of magic went into it.
