8. Read the Jedi Apprentice series
I finished two books this month...
Book 12:
The Evil Experiment: http://katekintailbc.livejournal.com/156345.html
*points to cover image of Qui-Gon bound like this and in pain* Yeah. I liked this book. Qui-Gon is being held captive by a scientist running, uh, evil experiments on him. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan tries to do two things 1-find the scientist's cure to the disease quickly killing the character from the last book and 2-find Qui-Gon. Yes, he is a Jedi, so his priorities are in that order. But when he finally finds Qui-Gon (and the antidote) things do not go as smoothly as he had hoped.
Even though there isn't much Obi & Qui interaction in this book, I still liked it. Obi-Wan just wants to rescue his master so badly. And Qui-Gon is really good at being a prisoner and trying to manipulate and understand his captor as best he can.
Book 13:
The Dangerous Rescue: http://katekintailbc.livejournal.com/157197.html
Qui-Gon finally manages to escape the clutches of an evil scientist and teams up with the group to track her down. With two Jedi masters, two Jedi padawans, one vengeful daughter, and three rather useless thieves, you'd think they'd make quick progress. However, it's not as easy as it could be. First off, the bounty hunter from two books ago is pissed off at Obi-Wan and keeps trying to lure him into traps to off him. Second, Qui-Gon is drained and exhausted (even his padawan notices!) and can't connect to the Force. Third, there's a whole planet that's dying because the scientist has poisoned the water supply there with bacteria that can't be stopped.
I really liked the concern Obi shows for his master. And I love how he's able to use what he's learned from Qui in the heat of battle--knowing when to run, when to fight, when to have patience, when to have a plan. There are still some unresolved issues, so I expect this storyline to last another book at least. But I definitely felt better with Qui-Gon out of the evil scientist's hands and back with his padawan at last.
