97. Give a microloan to someone through Kiva.org
Today I joined Kiva.org. I've heard a lot of about it over the years and I've visited the site maybe 20 times before. I've always wanted to fund someone in a country I have more of a connection to (like India or Papua New Guinea) but it looks like there aren't people from those countries on Kiva (yet?).
So I decided just to go ahead and do this one today. I found out yesterday that I was going to get a slight raise this month (we're in the middle of a pay freeze at the university, but the nonprofit I work for was able to find the funds) so I can't think of a better way to celebrate!
I joined a bunch of different groups on Kiva and participated as part of two of them today. I funded Luis Ayme Ancalle's Bookstore in Peru as a BookCrosser and Raquel De Los Angeles Martinez Narvaez's Book (& other supplies) store in Nicaragua as a member of Dumbledore's Army (HPA). I donated $25 to each and then another $7.50 (15%) to Kiva for operating costs.
Note: Javascript doesn't work on LJ pages. DRAT! So I'll just have to link instead of putting banners:

I was going to just donate a lot to one place but splitting it up made more sense my first time out in case only one is refunded. If it goes well, I'll reinvest the money into other Kiva entrepreneurs and keep the cycle going.
