3. Read 5 books off BookCrossing TBR shelves
I finally finished reading The Woman and the Ape by Peter Hoeg, which happens to be the book that has been sitting the longest on my BookCrossing bookshelf (so it counts for that square in 2019 BookCrossing Bingo).
I didn't love the book, which was the story of a highly-evolved ape who escapes, is recaptures for a zoo, and escapes again with the help of the zookeeper's wife, who begins an intimate and obsessive relationship with it. It did make me think about the line between human and animal. And there were a few lines here and there that were interesting to me. But, overall, I didn't enjoy the story or feel much for the woman. Some of the writing was absolutely gorgeous, and some of it was short and blunt and under-developed. Anyway, I am glad to have read it, though it's not a book I could personally recommend to anybody.
