26. Finish Supernatural

I'm not sure I was ever going to be emotionally ready to finish the series, but I decided it was time (before I got any more spoiled). During the first few weeks of January, I watched the final few seasons of Supernatural. SO many ups and downs. And during the last two episodes, I sobbed a lot. I cried for hours afterward. Prepared for it to be a terrible ending, I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't hate it at all. I'm glad to finally finish this show with its amazing 15-year run. It brought me joy, emotion, and friends!

82. Visit the Green Valley Bookfair

During my final weekend of my sixth list, I realized I had time to go to one of the museums or down to the bookfair. I finally decided on a bookfair road trip. I absolutely loved it, even though the wind advisory made me absolutely terrified I was going to die as I drove down on Route 88, white knuckling it the whole way.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but the warehouse with amazing book prices was about 3 times the size I'd imagined. I made a list of items ahead of time and found everything but one LEGO book and a cross-stitch kit. I found some presents for friends and family. I found some books for my church library. In all, I managed to spend $104 on:
1 book I've already read and wanted a physical copy of
5 books that went on my Mt. To Be Read
1 pack of colored pencils
1 word puzzle book
1 coloring book
2 Disney board games (Gargoyles & Jungle Cruise)
3 books I'm donating to my church library
1 book I'm giving away next Halloween
1 pack of stickers
1 seagull plushie
6 presents for friends/family

On my way home, I stopped by a Dollar Tree and bought a book on simplifying (which is my theme for the year) and got a free LEGO book I'll be BookCrossing later this year. I also stopped by Cracker Barrel (my first time inside one in... I dunno 10 years? More?) and bought some stick candy, an Easter donkey squishmallow, and a giant highland coo tote bag. The wind had died down by then, and the drive back took hours but was much more pleasant. I also finished one audiobook and started another during the journey. It was such a great day!

21. Disney cartoon show marathon

On the last weekend of December, I decided to start this marathon! I began with the new series of DuckTales. I'd been wanting to watch it for a while now, especially because David Tennant voices Scrooge McDuck. I was immediately charmed by it and watched every episode in its three season run (all 75).

There was still time left in my holiday weekend, so I watched a few episodes of shows from my childhood: Gummi Bears, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, and Darkwing Duck. The shows were not as great as I remembered them, but that might be also because I was comparing them to the reboot of DuckTales with its more modern storylines and much better animation. Still, I did love them all, and it was so great to watch a few episodes of them all.

My FAVORITE thing was, however, that the new DuckTales show has some mention or overlap with all of these shows from my childhood. They were little in-jokes (or BIG in-jokes) that people from my generation would have picked up on that kids these days wouldn't have. I laughed so much over some of them. Oh, I also loved hearing Lin-Manuel Miranda voice one of the characters! Definitely so happy to have finally seen that whole series. It was a fun Disney show-filed weekend!

45. NaNoWriMo 2023

I had such a great November! I worked on a cozy fantasy novel I've titled: The Saved Are Not Forever Happy. While I didn't finish the novel during November, I did manage to meet these goals:
1. Write AT LEAST 1,667 every single day in November
2. Pass the 50,000 mark (58,716 words written)
3. Fall IN LOVE with some new characters
4. Buy my second official NaNoWriMo t-shirt

So proud of me! I look forward to finishing a full draft of this novel soon.

88. Zip line at Hemlock

Camp Hemlock was the place where I refused to go down the zipline when I was in 6th grade. It's currently only available for large groups to use and hasn't fully reopened since the pandemic. But, after googling ropes courses I found one right down the road for me at a county park. I had NO idea it existed, and apparently it's only been open for a couple of years. It's affiliated with the GoApe! brand and run out of a little trailer on park grounds on the edge of the forest. I was a little nervous, but at $60 I was also determined.

The different legs of the ropes courses were difficult but SO much fun. I loved swinging and bouncing among the trees, up in the air. The zipline, however, was not my fave. I wiped out all four times I tried to do it, landing on my back and getting covered by dirt. I did not like going fast. I did not like not being able to stick a landing. I did not like being carried off my feet by momentum. I did not like hanging helplessly from a cable and not being able to control my descent. I am 100% sure that 6th grade Kate would NOT have been able to emotionally handle the zipline. I barely did as a 43-year-old. If I do the ropes course again, I am going to see about skipping the zipline portion of it. I think there might be a way to unhook and climb down instead of using the zipline as the only way to get down. I just DON'T like going fast and feeling out of control. But apart from the zipline, I had an AMAZING time up in the trees on the different obstacles and rope trails. Already hoping to do it again.

46. Take a photo of the KP tree each October

On my way home from work one evening, I made a detour and got a photo of the tree. It still doesn't look like it has grown much, but seeing it all the time means I can't accurately eyeball its growth. I look forward to putting all the photos together one day to see the changes over time.

28. Watch Wildcards: Deadlands

In September, I finished the final episode and also the wrap-up "By the Campfire" discussion episode. I immediately wanted to start watching again from the beginning, and I probably WILL rewatch it again some time. But at 200+ hours, maybe not right away.

I was hesitant at first, as I'm not a fan of westerns, but I absolutely loved this series and its characters, (especially season 2 onward). I am so glad I finally watched it.

I ran into a few problems transferring funds online, but it worked on the app. I made an extra mortgage payment this month. Even though I'll continue to save a little in my special account for this, I'm calling this done as it's the last May in this round of 101 Things.

60. Try a kickboxing class

After purchasing a two-month membership, I took a couple boxing classes at TITLE Boxing. Then I took my first kickboxing class. It was exhausting but extremely enjoyable. I was told I had pretty good form, especially for my first ever in-person class (I learned from online fitness videos). But I got a lot of pointers and tips for improving, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm hoping to continue my membership.

I wanted to write myself a letter on my birthday, but I didn't get to it until the day after. I set it up with to send the letter back to myself in 10 years. It was fun and cathartic and a really great exercise. I hope my future self enjoys what I wrote!

37. Eat a pie every Pi Day

I bought myself a small apple pie and bought a large pecan pie to bring to work. At work, sooo many people brought pies. So I ended up having my first piece of homemade shoofly pie and a piece of homemade apple berry. Both were delicious! The following week, I had a piece of the pecan pie and a piece of the lemon meringue still leftover from pi day. So 2 pies on pi day itself and 5 different pies for pi week. This is the last March of this list, and I've had pie on each one. So this thing officially accomplished!

48. Send gratitude notes every day for a month

I made a colorful BuJo spread for this, which I won't be sharing, because I used some people's last names. I also didn't start exactly at the beginning of a month. All the same, it was a wonderful way to start my year. I really enjoyed sending notes out to people I'd meant to thank for something for some time or to people who I can never thank enough for being in my life.

44. NaNoWriMo 2022

This year's NaNo was the hardest yet for me. I had almost 10,000 words left to write on the last day, and I almost didn't make it. But I did start a novel, start and finish 5 different stories, and started a 6th story. And that's more writing than I've done all year combined. So it was a stressful experience, but a productive one in the end.

18. Lord of the Rings marathon

Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I decided just to pop in some Middle Earth movies and get this marathon crossed off my list. I rewatched all the extended editions as well as Ringers (for the first time) and started the first two episodes of Rings of Power. I've seen the LotR movies dozens of times, but it was magical to watch them again this time. It reminded me of how amazingly good the movies are, and perhaps that was partly because I watched them after watching the Hobbit movies. While there are still many things I don't like about the Hobbit movies, there were fewer parts I disliked this time around. In fact, I really liked them. But then watching the LotR trilogy just blew them away. What a wonderful weekend in Middle Earth! The next day, at work, I listened to the LotR soundtracks all day to make the feeling last a little longer.

Day 1:
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Day 2:
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Ringers: Lord of the Fans

Day 3:
The Rings of Power: Episodes 1 & 2

27. Finish Wildcards: ETU

I rewatched some of Wildcards: East Texas University on Saving Throw Show's sophomore year until I was sure I caught up, took a short detour into Wildcards: Undeclared, and then watched junior and senior year. Yes, I cried at the end of the series, but I was thrilled and satisfied by the ending as well. What a fantastic set of characters and storylines. So glad I watched it!

41. Have a puzzle day

I spent an entire fun day (Labor Day) putting together puzzles! I started with a haunted house puzzle I put together hundreds of times during my childhood. Then I put together a Harry Potter map of Hogwarts puzzle (500 pieces) that I got as a present years ago from my family but had never put together. I ended the day by putting together a third puzzle, a gorgeous art scene from Star Wars (1,000 pieces), that I got as a present last year and had never attempted. It was a marvelous day of puzzling. I should really do this more often.
