43. See a roller derby game
I've been fascinated with the idea of roller derbies for years. The women who play the sport are tough and such characters! And I loved roller skating when I was a kid; the idea of it being a competitive, team sport and on a flat track is so interesting to me. I met a couple of the local roller derby girls last year at Pride, but I didn't get a chance to go last year.
Today I finally went to see my first roller derby bout! I LOVED IT! Even more than I expected to, in fact. It definitely took me a while to get the rhythm of it, and there are still things I don't quite understand. But I loved watching these ladies be graceful and coordinated and clever on skates. And by the end of the fourth quarter, I could actually see a few plays forming and could figure out what problems were when they arose (for example, at one point one of the jammers got a penalty, and I understood immediately that meant it was up to the pivot to score points for her team during the jam). My favorite jam was definitely when the biggest, toughest blockers on both teams played jammer at the same time. That got pretty intense and physical! I also loved all the character that showed through for each of the players; they has awesome derby alter egos! Some of my favorites were Dr. Frank N Hurther, Danny DiVino, Maimy Pond, Tickled Pink, Jtimberskate, Skate Lola Skate, and Kiki Ka-Boom.

I would definitely go again.
