I finished reading Lieutenant Hornblower today.
I couldn't have been happier!! In fact, I soon came to discover that the ONLY thing better than reading a book that follows Hornblower's adventures is reading a book where the main character is equally as obsessed as I am in following Hornblower's adventures!
I have always loved the relationship between Horblower and Bush... and being a slasher it was difficult not to see that more was going on when watching the movies... but the book- OMG I didn't even have to read between the lines! Everything from Bush noticing Horatio's hands to Horatio helping Bush down and tucking him into bed *whimper* Beyond my wildest dreams, this book was. I honestly didn't think any Hornblower book could top the first one- I love how it read like a series of stories. But this one really got me. It was FASCINATING to get to see everything from Bush's point of view, and get to know Hornblower all over again through his eyes- the curiosity and growing respect-turned-admiration were fantastic.
I knew what to expect from the storyline since I'd seen the movie version... but having it played out in so many details- it was tense and exciting. And the ending was all I could have hoped for. Gods, I love intelligent men *G* A really incredible story- one I KNOW I will be reading and re-reading for the rest of my life.

| I love Horatio Hornblower. And so I was all ready for the second book of exciting adventures starring this wonderful character I got to know so well in the first book. I started listening and immediately: enter Lieutenant Bush. *drool* This was fine by me. I liked Bush a whole lot in the A&E movies; I was cool with that. Then... suddenly... I realized the WHOLE BOOK followed Bush and Hornblower was almost a secondary character. What was my reaction? |  |
