List 1- Thing 55
Jun. 26th, 2007 09:31 pm55. Get a P.O. Box and do PostCrossing; send out 50 postcards
Today I bought my very own Post Office Box! I figure with all the BookCrossing mailings I do, it's much safer than using my street address. And now I have a shinny gold key and my very own box at the post office down the street from my work. It's not the big post office in downtown Fairfax, because I hardly ever go in that direction. It's a tiny little post office between where I work and the main road I can take to get home (via Blockbuster & Wal-Mart). So I go that way several times a week anyway, and the people at the post office see me there all the time. They're really nice people, not uptight like at some of the places around here. I think picking the post office location was the hardest part of this whole thing, actually! There are 4 nearby, 3 of which I visit frequently.
Anyway, I purchased a P.O. box and paid for a year. We'll see if it's worth it. I think it will be safer if nothing else. Though for big packages I'll probably still use my street address because it's a smallish box.
I also joined PostCrossing just now. I'm so excited about this! My very first collection of anything was my postcard collection. My dad would send me postcards from everywhere he travelled. I think it will be cool to send postcards all around the world. I just requested my first address... someone in Finland! Whoohoo! :-)

Date: 2007-06-28 04:03 am (UTC)You can buy them in for six months at a time, but for a year, mine was $84. I got the smallest size, and I think prices might be different for different parts of the country, but all the post offices in my area had the same rate. It comes out to $7 a month. Which isn't bad for knowing that I can get mail/postcards and still be safe. And if I get my own apartment again, that's epsecially important to me. So this will be a good trial if nothing else.
