54. Watch every nominated movie from the Academy Awards (excluding foreign film) from 2007-2009
I just watched Michael Clayton. Really liked it. George Clooney was fantastic- I haven't been that comfortable and impressed with his performance in a while but was pleased with it here. I liked the build-up and the mystery slowly unfolding. Tilda Swinton was amazing! And I think my co-worker was correct that the hotel we had our annual conference in was absolutely the one at the end of the movie. I recognized the circles and light fixtures and wood walls and signs and telephones and placement of escalators. Definitely neat. But a great movie, in all. I like court case movies about powerful subjects that tell the story much differently than a standard case. The case was certainly central, but it was character-driven and well-written. The ending was one of those ending with a whimper instead of a bang but equally powerful.
