just_the_things56. Start a bird life list
Here's the journal I chose to write my list and notes in. I bought it last year because I thought it was beautiful and then realized how perfect it would be for this purpose. So I set it aside. For my birthday this year, my sister got me this field guide, like the one our mom has (I grew up with it as the ultimate authority of birds where I live). I'm putting checkmarks in the index next to the ones I put in my list/journal as well.
I did some research about what's supposed to go on a bird life list. Most places differed regarding what should be included, and some places asked for far more information than I have about my encounters with birds. So I decided it was okay to put down as much info as I had and not feel bad about it. Name of bird, date, and city/state/country are a minimum. I found these links to be very useful:

I think I would like to go back and fill in info for any birds I took photos of (so that I'll have the exact dates) that I won't see again any time soon. For example, the magpies I saw when I was in Wales and Dublin.
But at any rate, I've been wanting to start one of these for years and now I've finally started it!
