1. Watch every Academy Award best picture nominee from 2010 to 2015
I watched three movies this weekend:
12 Years a Slave- Loved it. It broke me repeatedly. The acting was phenominal. And the sets and costumes--everything felt so painfully real. I loved what wasn't said a lot of times--the looks exchanged, the hesitations, the parts held back/hidden. It was terrible and beautiful and painful and realistic; I can't even begin to describe the mix of emotions I felt while watching. Overwhelming. Also, I had no idea Brad Pitt was in the movie, so that was a pleasant surprise. And Benedict was amazing, of course.
American Hustle- I didn't care for this one. The style is just not my taste. The story seemed to go nowhere. The actors were great. It just didn't pull me in or do anything for me. The only thing I felt was relief when it was over.
The Wolf of Wall Street- This one got terrible reviews on Netflix, but I quite liked it. It was far too long, but I knew that going in so I was prepared. I screamed out loud a couple times I was so caught up in what was happening on screen. Leo really blended into the character, and everyone did a great job acting. I can't say I enjoyed the movie, but I liked it and am glad I watched it. I would absolutely watch it again any time. I didn't mind the sex or drugs, but if people have a problem with those, this is not the movie to watch.
